I canNOT believe this year is already coming to a close. It has honestly FLOWN by. I didn’t know at the beginning of 2017 that it would be the year I changed my life. But boy, am I so glad! There have been ups + downs throughout this year, but hey that’s life right? Of course in culture and our world, 2017 has been a rough year. But amidst the darkness, always shines light. And I have had a LOT of light sprinkled throughout my 2017. This has been a year of much self-reflection and goal-setting for me. I was miserable in my career & was feeling completely uncreative and unmotivated. I was in a rut in early 2017. I decided to stop wishing and start MAKING CHANGES.
It is so easy to get caught up in the NEGATIVE of our lives, that we don’t see all the amazingness right in front of us. The list below includes some highlights that had nothing to do with choices I made. They are just things that happened or I got to be a part of that were wonderful. But a lot of the MAJOR things on the list are direct results of CHOICES that I made. So many of us have goals and dreams and visions and we simply never put them into action because we are afraid. Afraid of failure. Afraid of judgement. Afraid of the unknown. Afraid of leaving the “comfort” of our mediocre lives. Well here’s what will happen if you go on living your life like that. You will always have regret and discontent floating in the back of your mind. I want to inspire you to make 2018 the year that you do something FOR YOURSELF. Whether that means taking a trip, getting a different job, saying Hi to that guy at the gym, getting in shape, going back to school, learning a new skill, getting a new hobby, WHATEVER makes you smile when you think about it. Make 2018 the year that you stop dreaming, and start DOING.
In 2017 I:
Attended 7 weddings celebrating friends finding their forevers
Went to 3 concerts: Garth Brooks, Thomas Rhett, and Brett Young
Went to my 2nd Indy 500 Race
Welcomed my first Nephew into the world & became a Godmother for the first time
Set my fears aside & launched my BLOG while continuing to work full-time
Went on an amazing 2 week European adventure with the love of my life
STOPPED SETTLING & chased my dreams
Quit my full-time job & launched my own photography & web design business (whaaaattt?! still can’t believe this is real!)
Celebrated my brother getting accepted to Xavier University (my alma mater)!!!!
Booked a trip to Australia + New Zealand for early 2018 with my hubs (my travel partner fo lyfe)
Celebrated 2 wonderful years of marriage (how has it been 2 years already?!)
And much much more, but those are the highlights in a nutshell…
The point of this by the way is not to be like “oh look at me and all I’ve done”…quite the opposite. The point is that if I can accomplish the things I did this year, than anyone can. I am just an ordinary girl, living an ordinary life, who decided to stop living in fear, and to go after the things that I wanted.
Take your visions of what you want to happen in your life and literally will them into existence. It sounds crazy, but you literally just have to start doing, start taking steps toward whatever your goal is. Baby steps. Another reason most people never “go for it” is because it seems overwhelming. “But HOW do I even start??” is likely what you think to yourself. Break your goals down into practical realistic smaller steps and goals. And Make. It. Happen. I’m not saying I have it all together, there are days where I have my doubts as well. But when I look at what I have accomplished so far and the fact that I made some major goals of mine a reality, I am proud and it gives me the motivation to keep going. I never ever thought I would start my own business. It’s just amazing where life can take you when you become open to possibilities and opportunities, rather than settling for what is just”okay.” I don’t want your 2018 to be “okay”, I want it to be AMAZING!!!
So, look back in this past year. Think about your accomplishments, your failures, and things that happened that made you happy. Then think about how you can make 2018 different, in a better way. I believe in YOU!
