Before + After: Our Hotel-Inspired Master Bath Remodel

Since buying our house in 2015, we have remodeled a good portion of it, which more blog posts are to come! One of my favorite parts of buying a fixer upper is getting to create a vision for each part of our home + make my design come to life! Our most recent renovation was our master bathroom. Our house was built in 1978, and I am pretty sure the bathroom was either original to the home or was at least from that era. Yikes!

The way the house is designed, the master bath is relatively small for what is supposed to be the “grandest bathroom in the home”. Knowing this, when I began creating my vision for the new bathroom, my goal was to use visual tricks to make it look bigger, and also choose materials + patterns that would make it look more luxurious. Always have to have resale value in mind 🙂

I knew I wanted very a very light + airy color scheme, so I chose a very light gray paint color (Silver Drop by Behr) and picked gray’s and marbles for our tile selections. I knew I wanted a marble top white vanity and absolutely love the design of ours from The Home Depot.

When I saw this mirror and these vanity lights I fell in love. They had the glam factor I was looking for to add that hotel touch to the look. I just wasn’t sure if Ryan would go for such a “girly” style. Luckily my hubs trusts my design skills and gave me the OK! I think they pull the look together gorgeously, but don’t make it feel too girly because of the balance of the oil-rubbed bronze elements.

I originally wanted marble tile for both the floors and for the shower. Ryan thought it would maybe be too much white since I also wanted the vanity to be white + have a marble top. I am SO glad we went with this gray plank tile for the floors because I absolutely love it! I think it was just the balance we needed in the color scheme.

We also knew we wanted a clear glass shower door to add a modern, luxurious feel and  because you can see straight through to the back wall, it makes the bathroom feel larger than if a shower curtain or frosted glass door were there instead. The pictures of the shower door do not even do it justice, it looks amazing!! It was the very last thing we did, so it felt like the cherry on top, completing the project. We ordered our glass door from Basco. Completely recommend them, they have so many options to choose from and each door is custom to fit your space.

I love the specialty tiles we chose for the accent area in the shower: the strip and the inset shelf. I chose a raw stone + metallic mix for the strip and a glass arabesque mosaic tile set for the inset. I adore how they turned out! Again, I really wanted to add custom touches that made the bathroom feel one-of-a-kind.

Decor-wise, I wanted to keep it very simple. I wanted it to feel like a hotel, which you rarely see tons of “stuff” in a luxury hotel bathroom. So rather than clutter the walls, I just went for the statement shelf over the toilet with some greenery + one of my favorite wedding photos to add a small personal touch.

I am one lucky girl because I have an amazingly talented + hard-working hubby, brother-in-law and father-in-law who did all of the gutting of the bathroom + much of the installation of the new design themselves! They are THE best! Had to give them a shoutout!

Here are all the sources of everything we purchased for the bathroom. I’ve linked everything that I could:

Paint – Silver Drop by Behr from The Home Depot

Shower Door – Basco

All Tile – Menard’s

Faucet – Pfister brand from Menard’s
